Werner Drewes was a prolific artist and graduate of the Bauhaus diaspora. The Bauhaus centennial of 2019 marks the opening of the legendary school in Weimar, Germany that was operational from 1919 to 1933. Werner Drewes maintained his devotion to the Bauhaus ideals of function, abstraction, and experimentation beyond his time as a student of the school. After moving to New York from Germany, Drewes spent his artistic career developing new and distinct printmaking techniques and dedicating the later part of his life to teaching.
