The Souper Dress by Andy Warhol
Details
  • The Souper Dress by Andy Warhol (American, 1928-1987). An iconic ephemeral fashion statement inspired by Andy Warhol’s classic Pop Art series of Campbell’s Soup Cans. The dress was sold as a promotional campaign by the Campbell’s Soup Company in the late 1960s. The dress combined the 1960's fashion fad of paper dresses, along with the growing popularity of Andy Warhol's "art of the everyday" pop art. Customers could redeem the dress through the mail after sending in two Campbell’s soup can labels and $1.00. Original ad copy for the dress: "It's a pretty groovy deal just for enjoying Campbell's Vegetable Soup...To get your Campbell Paper Dress, send the labels from any 2 different kinds of Campbells' Vegetable Soups, $1.00 and your size."

The dress is made of paper and could not be washed, and was therefore only intended to be worn once or twice. It could be cut to the appropriate hem length using the stripes at the bottom.

    Size: 44" h x 29 1/2" w
Condition: Very good color and impression. Some toning and staining to paper.

Artist: Andy Warhol
